Fasting diets, such as the 5:2, took the world by storm but weren't sustainable due to the frequency of fasting. Longo's revolutionary research shows how to mimic fasting and the Longevity Diet implements this through FMD - a fasting-mimicking diet - which only limits your calorie intake for five days, up to four times a year. Not only will FMD rejuvenate the body and help weight loss, the focus of Longo's diet is to reduce the risk of illnesses such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease and ultimately improve our health and extend our lifespan. Including 30 easy recipes for an everyday diet and the FMD plan, the Longevity Diet is the key to living a longer, healthier, fuller life.

Dreadful binding on the book, pages fall out extremely easily just by turning them. Frustrating as it’s such an interesting read.

The book starts with the author's CV and personal story to convince us that we should believe him as a scientist and that he knows about food because he's Italian. Then it goes on to talk about "the five pillars" which would be interesting if he actually took them into account. The 5th pillar for instance, complex systems, is there just to round the number nicely to 5. It's not really fully explored or explained how the author's recommendations are really modified because of that. Anyway, the book mostly recommends the Mediterranean diet which, as the author discusses, is very restrictive but he recommends an even more restrictive diet. The differences between Mediterranean and his so called "longevity diet" are small, but for instance in the longevity one you're never allo... More

Badly written. Boring... and he goes off on too many tangents. It took an age to get through his life story to even get to some remotely interesting items...

Love anything linking diet with longevity. All writers seem to adapt their ‘method’ to suit what they think is achievable for most people. Definitely one of the better books on the subject

Very disappointed- was hoping to get a clear meal plan to follow- but just a lot of theory and no real inspiring guidance to follow..... complicated and confusing.

A fascinating read I couldn’t put the book down! Have also downloaded to my kindle so I can keep referencing it. I have done 2 cycles of the FMD following a cancer diagnosis and lost 8lbs in the process (which I wasn’t expecting). The research done by Professor Valter Longo is beyond amazing, he is very inspirational. and I would definitely recommend this book.

I love this guy and his work but this book was disappointing. After reading all about the benefits of the FMD diet I was expecting a chapter on how to do the diet at home. There is no easy way of working this out on your own, and I found it confusing to say the least. It says on the cover featuring the five day fast mimicking diet, yet it fails to actually deliver a five day mimicking diet plan of any description, unless you want to pay £250 for one. I will still follow Dr Longo's work, but I won't be tempted to purchase any further material from him. The proceeds may be donated to research but I still feel it is false advertising if you actually want to do the diet itself from the book.

A nice read from a genuine leading scientist. Some great information to help you decide whether to employ fasting related techniques for health and longevity. Also food selection, typically ancestry based. This is one of a number of fasting approaches and in the end I personally favour intermittent fasting and reduced carb with carb / keto cycling but I am glad I read this along with lots of other info. Also recommend Rhonda Patrick is you really want science behind diet and exercise.

I bought this book about 4 months ago - before the world changed as we knew it. Loved it from the start especially the story behind it, wonderful tales of the authors childhood in Italy, how the people lived and ate in his villiage and the incredible longevity of his people (all the more terribly shocking given what is happening at the moment re. Coronavirus and the toll it has taken on this great country and especially its elders). The engaging manner makes this book so different to others of its kind - this is not just a book which tells you that intermittent fasting is good for you, this goes so much deeper and the recepies Dr Valter Longo gives for this "Fast" are so delicious I find myself cooking many of them without any thought of fasting. One of my favourites is Pasta e Vaianeia. I cook this dish at least once a week , it is so sa... More

I bought The Longevity Diet: Slow Aging, Fight Disease, Optimize Weight thinking it would be update on his previous book of just under 2 years because the title was slightly different. No the only thing that's changed is the cover. I see some customers are buying both books as well.
