Australia's "Great Barrier Reef" comes to life in this book, with particular emphasis given to the topside features of Australia's tropical paradise. It is illustrated with photographs and maps throughout, and attractions for various types of tourist are covered - from the luxury island resorts to family-orientated motels and eco-friendly camping sites. The introduction focuses on the discovery and settlement of the reef, explaining what comprises the reef itself, and describing the rich diversity of landscapes and resorts in and around the reef, as well as exploring the coastal fringe and providing useful information for would-be holiday makers. The book splits the reef into five sections, starting from the north and working down to the south. Each chapter includes a locator map and a brief introduction to the area concerned followed by full-colour photography and informative captions.
