Drawing upon the character of Sisyphus from Greek Mythology, Camus beautifully constructs his theory of the absurd, one of the greatest works of Existentialism. Sisyphus was condemned by gods to eternally push a boulder atop a mountain and subsequently see it roll down to its base. Camus uses the analogy to explain the absurdity of human existence in the universe. He also wrote fiction, plays, and essays to expound the idea but The Myth of Sisyphus remains the crux of his philosophy.

I loved the book itself and the contents. A lot of food for thought. Great for people who like existentialism and philosophical debates with the self

It's well enough written but suffers a few flaws in it's internal logic.

Excellent example of a great writer and the period described has many echoes of today. Some say he is an acquired taste but in my view well worth the effort

Having read and loved all his novels, I got this. I found it virtually unreadable. I don't mind a challenge and have a strong interest in philosophy but this was not for me. Repetitive in places, vague and kind of assumes you know a lot of the works of other philosophers. I love his other books but hated this.

A book about the stage show that is life, the suffering and absurd moments that come with it and accepting it for what it is. Camus work can at times seem hard to follow but there comes a point it clicks and his idea and message becomes clear. This argument/message is a positive one, “one must imagine Sisyphus happy” because as long as he can roll that boulder up the hill he is alive and playing the game... More

Very Interesting, but ridiculously overrated!, tries to mock Schopenhauer and thinks that he understood Kierkegaard!, but you can forgive one for such a bleak and gloomy outlook on existence judging by such dire, apocalyptic and humiliating circumstances which France and the world were facing in 1942. I usually grow suspicious with universal acclimation and this is no different. Thought provoking, but even more boring than the eternally overrated Nietzsche is.

Read for the third time. One of most significant books of the 20th century in my opinion. THE book that made me think and anyone who has read it knows what thinking does...

One of my favorite pieces by one of my favorite existentialists. Best read with a guide.

Avoid, ironically enough, like the plague.
