Mr. Renny's paintings are so good that they almost appear real. But no one seems to pay them any attention-until a strange man offers to make everything that Mr. Renny paints come to life. First there's the painting of the apple, which Mr. Renny can now eat. Then there's a huge hotdog, a new car, a cruise liner... Mr. Renny paints himself a life of luxury-until his friend Rose comes to ask if she can buy one of his paintings. But he doesn't have any real paintings left! The spell must be broken-and soon! A book containing subtle references to the work of Belgian surrealist Ren Magritte, the illustrations are full of clever and amusing details.

The author has produced a very clear and detailed explanation of numbers and how they evolved over many centuries into the form we have today. He also explains very well the influence of numbers on many aspects of our daily lives. An interesting and enlightening book that is well worth reading.

Easy access for the not quite but budding academic . Helpful if you did not pay enough attention in class. If you now want to know and want to catch up

I'm no genius but I am a bit of a geek and an avid collector of 'interesting' facts. I read a lot and intersperse novels with factual books, often history. In this case, I tried a maths book and, wow, I'm glad that I did. Ever since school I've been fascinated with 'the golden rectangle' and its associated elements so I was delighted to find everything about that phenomenon set out here in an easy to understand format. This isn't a text book of any kind; it's a fantastic collection of facts about numbers written in a style that is really engrossing. This is, definitely, a book to read fully (it's short so it doesn't take long) and then to dip into over and over again. So the next time you can't remember what Roman numerals mean, dip into this. Or why is the number four unlucky in China?. Dip in. How many zeros are there in a m... More

Never having mastered maths whilst at school, I still harbour a desire to learn more in the subject. This ebook is just one in a series that cover all manner of subjects 'missed' at school level, when as a child I would rather swim (competitively) and train as much as possible to the detriment of my studies.I recommend it for any parent out there that now find them self with an inquisitive grandchild to 'teach' and assist with maths homework.
