While the author’s Greek origins are visible from the cover, his dependence on describing a world entirely dependent on Greece seems a bridge too far for him. The mythical story central to the plot ‘Euripides’s Alcestis’, ‘the sword of Damocles’, the ‘greek weather’, the protagonist ‘Theo’, the professor ‘Diomedes’… I could go on and on. In addition, everything has a psychoanalytical slant. The nonsense, new-age, undergrad psychology mumbo-jumbo made me squirm, and I studied psychology in Undergrad. The twist was fine, but very literal. It also doesn’t make sense when you think back on it. There should have been some developments earlier. A lot of the plot is wooly. Sadly, would not recommend.

A clever plot twist which makes for a very good read. Likeable characters with a story that flows brilliantly throughout.

Although I enjoyed this book and was intrigued by the story, the author's research (or lack of) into the mental health setting, mental health professionals and patients, ruins this book with its inaccuracies. The general plot is interesting, but the twist was rather easy to predict.Shame really as the premise of the story is a really good interesting idea, I just feel like it was poorly executed which is detrimental when there is so much competition for psychological thrillers.I would not particularly recommend this book even if Richard and Judy think it is worthwhile. There are loads of better thrillers out there, pick up a John Marrs or Catherine Ryan Howard instead!

Good fast paced plot and my goodness the twist I didn't see coming. Page turner, I read it in a few hours today.

I finished it, in a few days. Intriguing all the way through. I’ve never read anything by Alex Michaelides before. Will check his other books out now.

I liked the start of this story very much. In fact it pulled me in from the first page. But about halfway through it seemed to lose its way & I began to not really care about what happened next to the characters, so regrettably, gave up which I rarely do with a book.
